York DramaSoc is one of the most active student drama societies in Britain run entirely by students for the benefit of other students. We are based in ‘The Drama Barn’, our student run venue, and put on two plays a week during term time.

Every Monday night we hold Open Drama Nights (ODNs), offering students an opportunity to get their writing seen by an audience for the first time. We select a student written play to be performed that week, with a maximum running time of one hour. Then, for the remainder of the week we have our Weekend Show – running from either Thursday or Friday until Sunday night. Recent productions have ranged from original writing to new productions of modern classics.

Our goal is to provide a platform to students to put on exciting and innovative theatre projects, as well as provide audiences with fantastic shows every week of every term – we don’t even take a break for exams.

Getting Involved

Every show we do is entirely done by our members, so if there is something you would like to try we offer opportunities for all!

The easiest way to get involved is to come along to an Open Barn (12PM til 2PM every Monday) where you can talk to Team Barn – our committee members who look after our performance space, The Drama Barn.
